We did this intentionally with #1547, which is good for Google Play, but bad for Android in general. We need some sorta way to make builds for Google Play (or detect that we're from Google Play during runtime?) that don't show updates available, but keep an update prompt for sideloaded releases (since they'll need to be manually updated).
