Using macOS Tahoe & GIMP 3.2, I renamed, and merged the downloaded folder from the zip file with
~/Library/Application Support/GIMP/3.2(The folder is 3.2 for version 3.2), and all that seemingly changed was the splash screen?So I deleted the 3.2 folder, let GIMP create it from scratch, then redid the installation. Still, just the splash screen changed.
Is this not compatible with versions higher than 3.0.X?
