Is there an existing issue for this feature request?

  • I have searched the existing issues

Current filament section UI is confusing and has quite bad UX.

Image Image

Not only on it's look but it's effects: selecting some filaments do not make them available for some if not most of printers user has selected (this could be alleviated with #12162) creating confusing time for users, like eg https://www.facebook.com/groups/elegoocentauri/permalink/1517132869354301

Which printers will be beneficial to this feature?

All

Describe the solution you'd like

Ideally - a full redesign, compatible with overall look and feel that's also visually on-par with #12161

Visual grouping by Vendor/Material/Subtype, printer compatibility/blacklisting shown, more visual "flair" (vendor logos maybe)

How look could "feel" depending on the outcome of #12162 :

Top bar:

  • A visible "Printer compatibility", showing printers user has enabled and selecting "compatible only with all", "compatible with any", "compatible with selected"
  • search bar

side bar:

  • Material grouping ("PLA/PLA+/PLA-CF", "PETG/PETG-CF", "ABS/ASA")
  • Type grouping ("General", "Engineering", "Esthetic", "Flexible", "Support", "Reinforced") Or some combination of both

to be decided where:

  • Filament vendor filter with logo where available

Main area:

  • vendor + name in nice arrangement (eg "SUNLU • PLA Matte" with maybe small icon)
  • if doing a "CARD" view instead of list, add additional info, like showing available swatch (currently only avail for bambu I think), printer compatibility
  • add info about filament on hover (basic data, eg: "Nozzle: 250C, Enclosed printer recommended")
  • if a filament is blacklisted for any printer user has selected, show warning that it won't be available there...

Describe alternatives you've considered

Either deal with current drawbacks or at least try to do soemthing like crealityprint did...
