Is there an existing issue for this feature request?

  • I have searched the existing issues

I am always frustrated when I have sliced my object and as I go over the model layer by layer I see an island I missed or forgot to paint a support onto. Then I have to go back and paint the support there and then slice again. And then possibly find another island and the process repeats over and over as I find more islands. This does happen a lot on some of the sculptures I produce. And I would really love the ability to paint supports during the preview phase when i can see the islands clearly. I will paint the island green. Then keep moving up through the layers and as I see more I can paint them and keep doing this process. Instead of going to the preview and then seeing an island and going back to prepare and then painting then slicing again and looking for more islands etc etc.

Which printers will be beneficial to this feature?

All

Describe the solution you'd like

All that needs to be done in my opinion is some way of the painted layer lines in the preview transferring their paint over to the xray model in the preview section and it transfers the painted areas over to the prepare section. It would make it very streamlined for someone like me who doesn't like to do any auto supports and only manual painted supports. Then I can do one phase of looking for islands and paint them all as I explore the layers one by one and then only need to do one re do of the slice operation. As it works now when I find an island I have to go back to Prepare and then paint and reslice then look for more and then go back and paint then re slice etc.
