Please see the post above for more info on this

Modern multi‑extruder and multi‑material printers expose several workflow limitations in OrcaSlicer.
This request summarizes key improvements that would significantly enhance reliability, reduce filament waste,
and streamline large multi‑material projects.

Which printers will be beneficial to this feature?

All

Describe the solution you'd like

https://www.reddit.com/r/OrcaSlicer/comments/1qy3in9/orcaslicer_and_multiextruder_printing_needs/

Much of it is here but to put simply

Multi‑extruder users face issues with:

  • Material‑dependent retraction on tool swaps
  • Managing large projects across multiple printers/plates
  • Prime towers failing due to incompatible materials
  • Inability to control which materials flush into supports
  • Difficulty organizing multi‑part/multi‑color objects
  • Cutting plane limitations when modifying STLs

These issues lead to failed prints, wasted filament, and complex workflows.

Describe alternatives you've considered

  1. Add per‑filament overrides for tool‑swap retraction.
  2. Allow per‑plate printer and filament profile overrides.
  3. Enable material‑specific prime tower assignment.
  4. Allow flushing‑into‑supports to be restricted by material ID.
  5. Add a grouping hierarchy for multi‑part/multi‑color objects.
  6. Allow resizing the cutting plane for more precise STL edits.

Additional context

These suggestions come from extensive use of multi‑extruder systems (IDEX, MMU, AMS, U1, etc.).
Each proposal builds on existing OrcaSlicer systems and aims to improve modularity, reliability,
and workflow efficiency.
