Is there an existing issue for this feature request?

  • I have searched the existing issues

Supported overhangs often have a bad first layer. Bridging to support is often not enough to provide a good first layer, and removing the supports often causes damage to the print.

Which printers will be beneficial to this feature?

All

Describe the solution you'd like

Github user @riekskaiser made a post-processing script that takes an Orcaslicer generated gcode file and modifies it to only use pin supports and use a special kind of concentric overhang layer. The resulting first overhang layer is vastly better than what regular supports are able to do.

Here's the github link to it: https://github.com/riekskaiser/wave_LaSO

This reddit post has a video showing how it works: https://www.reddit.com/r/Advanced_3DPrinting/comments/1s1fuys/pin_supported_laterally_supported_overhang/
