Hi team and thank you for the incredible work on OrcaSlicer!

Use case
Many users who print lightweight yet extremely rigid parts (drone frames, RC components, robotic arms, cylindrical/tubular structural parts) need the following wall structure:

  • 2–4 normal external perimeters (solid and touching each other)
  • A user-configurable empty gap / air gap (typically 0.5 mm to 4 mm)
  • 1–3 internal concentric shells/perimeters perfectly detached from the external walls
  • The very inside can stay hollow or use any classic infill pattern
  • Automatic radial spokes/connectors placed in the gap every N layers (the existing “Connect infill lines” + “Gap fill” already does this beautifully when infill is detached)

This structure creates an ultra-rigid “double-wall with air gap” that is vastly stronger and lighter than solid walls or normal infill.

Current workarounds (both painful)

  1. Very low-density concentric infill + 0 % overlap → gap exists but is not precisely controllable and varies with model size
  2. Scaled/shifted cylinder modifier with 100 % concentric infill → works perfectly but is slow and basically unusable on complex or multi-body geometries

Which printers will be beneficial to this feature?

Describe the solution you'd like

It would be amazing to have a small dedicated section (e.g. under Print Settings → Walls → Advanced) with just a few settings:

  • Enable spaced internal shells
  • External perimeters: ______ (default = current perimeter count)
  • Air gap width: ___ mm
  • Internal concentric shells: 0–3
  • Infill inside internal shells: (standard infill dropdown or 0 %)
  • Radial connectors every ___ layers (or “Auto” using current logic)

With this single feature OrcaSlicer would instantly become the best slicer on the market for ultra-lightweight structural parts.
